Clausura 2012: Round 3 Wrap-Up
On Wednesday Peñarol thrashed Bella Vista 4-1 in a catch-up game from Round 1. Goals from Santiago Silva and Rodrigo Mora had Penarol 2-0 up at the break before Federico Laens pulled one back for Vista on 72 minutes. But Peñarol responded instantly though Marcelo Silva with Sebastian Cristoforo rounding off the scoring soon after.
On Saturday evening at the Parque Capurro, Fenix and Danubio played out a 1-1 draw. After a tame first half, the game sprung to life on 72 minutes when Roman Cuello gave the home side the lead. But just seconds later, Maximiliano Bajter was sent off for Fenix and Danubio capitalised on their advantage and scored an equaliser just four minutes later through Diego Martiñones.
In a thrilling game at the Estadio Olimpico, Rampla Juniors came from behind to defeat Racing Club 4-3. The away side took just four minutes to take the lead thanks to Daniel Acosta with Federico Gomez doubling their advantage two minutes before the break. Rampla pulled one back on the stroke of half-time to give them some momentum for the second half. They came out of the break on fire and scored an equaliser just six minutes into the half before Richard Nuñez put them in-front two minutes later. He then bagged his brace twenty minutes later. Things got worse for Racing when Rodrigo Pastorini was awarded a second yellow card. Racing did score a consolation goal on 89 minutes but were then reduced to nine-men when Anibal Hernandez was sent-off in injury time.
Peñarol continued on their roll in Clausura with a 4-2 win over Cerro Largo on Saturday night. Rino Lucas put Cerro Largo ahead just seconds into the match before Marcelo Zalayeta equalised on 17 minutes. Juan Alvez gave Cerro the lead with an own-goal early in the second-half, but Dario Rodriguez equalised just eight minutes later. Another eight minutes on and Fabian Estoyanoff gave Peñarol the lead before scoring his sides fourth at the death.
Eight-man Cerrito suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Defensor Sporting in the last of the Saturday games. Matias Britos had Defensor 1-0 up on 18 minutes before Nicolas Olivera doubled their advantage shortly afterwards. This was all while Cerrito still had 11 men on the pitch. They were reduced to 10 on 34 minutes when Gaston de los Santos was shown a straight red card. The next straight red was shown to Ismael Gonzalez seven minutes before time, before Marcelo Damiano picked up his second yellow a minute later. Despite have three more men on the pitch, Defensor couldn't add to their advantage with the game ending 2-0.
The first game to kick-off on Sunday was the dreaded morning game between Bella Vista and Montevideo Wanderers. Jose Varela put Bella Vista up early in the first-half before Sergio Rodriguez equalised for Wanderers just 10 minutes later. Maximiliano Rodriguez completed the come-back by giving Wanderers the lead early in the second period, but Marcelo Martusciello secured a point for his side with a goal 10 minutes from time. Both sides are still without a win after three games.
River Plate finally got off the mark in the Clausura with a 2-0 away win to Rentistas. It took less than two minutes for Sebastian Taborda to give River the lead. The scored stayed 1-0 up until 12 minutes from time when Taborda popped up again to double River's lead and secure the three points for the away side.
Liverpool made it three from three so far this season with a 1-0 win at home to El Tanque Sisley. The game was seemingly headed for a 0-0 draw but El Tanque were given a chance to go ahead in the second-half when they were awarded a penalty. Uruguay international goalkeeper Juan Castillo pulled off a great double save to keep the scores level before Diego Vera popped up with the winning goal on 88 minutes, his fourth of the campaign so far.
In the final game of the round, Cerro made the daunting trip to Gran Parque Central to face Nacional. The home side took just two minutes to open the scoring through Matias Cabrera. Nacional dominated the majority of the game and they doubled their lead shortly after the hour mark with a goal from substitute Matias Vecino. Alexander Media added a third on 73 minutes with the game ending 3-0 in favour of Nacional.
