Defensor Sporting crash 3-0 to Velez Sarsfield

Defensor Sporting have suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Velez Sarsfield in their opening game of the 2012 Copa Libertadores.

Yonatan Irrazabal gifted the Argentinean side the opening goal of the game on 41 minutes when he picked up a backpass from Andres Fleurquin.

David Ospina's initial effort from the resulting indirect free-kick was blocked and only partially cleared before Emiliano Papa's cross found David Ramirez who fired low to give Velez the advantage going into the break.

Velez dominated most of the second period and were rewarded with a second goal on 81 minutes.

A dangerous corner-kick was headed towards goal by Fernando Ortiz and Mauro Obolo was on hand to double their lead from close-range.

It got worse for Defensor just minutes later when Velez defender Sebastian Dominguez made it 3-0 with a stunning free-kick, securing a comfortable victory for the away side.

In the other game in Group 7, Mexican club Guadalajara scored a 90th minute equalizer to secure a 1-1 draw at home to Deportivo Quito of Ecuador.
