Clausura 2012 - Round 2 Wrap-Up

Liverpool Futbol Club secured top spot after round 2 in the 2012 Clausura with a big 3-1 away win to River Plate on Saturday evening. Elias Figueroa had Liverpool 2-0 up by the 65th minute mark before Sebastian Taborda pulled one back for the home side from the penalty spot with twenty minutes to play. But Diego Vera scored his third of the season with six minutes left on the clock to secure Liverpool the three points.

A brace from Rino Lucas gave Cerro Largo a big 3-0 win at home to Montevideo Wanderers also on Saturday evening. Lucas put the home side ahead just after the half-hour mark before Brazilian Felipe Klein doubled their lead on 69 minutes. Lucas bagged his second soon after before Jonathan Sandoval was sent off for Wanderers.

Bella Vista kicked off their season by playing out an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Fenix at the Parque Jose Nasazzi. Both sides cancelled each other out for the entire 90 minutes with the draw a fair result in the end.

Penarol however got their season off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory against El Tanque Sisley at the Estadio Centenario on Saturday night. Dario Rodriguez gave Penarol the lead on just 14 minutes before Fabian Estoyanoff made it 2-0 just before half-time. Penarol will face Bella Vista on Wednesday in their catch-up game from Round 1.

Danubio and Rentistas kicked-off the Sunday games, playing out a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Jardines del Hipodromo on Sunday morning. Marcelo Fernandez gave Rentistas a surprise lead early in the second-half but Alvaro Mello stepped up to score the equaliser for the home side with 17 minutes to play.

10-man Cerro held on to secure a 0-0 draw at home to Rampla Juniors on Sunday evening at the Monumental Luis Troccoli. Washington Camacho was sent-off for Cerro on just 11 minutes after picking up two yellow cards. 10 cards were handed out in total in what was a fiery Classico de la Villa. Rampla just couldn't utilize their advantage and the game finished scoreless.

Racing Club and Cerrito remain without a win after two games when they played out another 0-0 draw on Sunday. It was a game with chances few and far between and in the end the draw was a fair result.

The best game of the round was saved for last, with two title favourites Defensor Sporting and Nacional playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Estadio Centenario. Braian Aleman put Defensor ahead on 18 minutes from the penalty-spot. Nacional manager Marcelo Gallardo rang in the changes after the break and it worked wonders as just four minutes after coming on, Joaquin Boghossian equalised for the Apertura champions. But Defensor manager Gustavo Diaz made some changes of his own, bringing on Federico Pintos and Diego Rolan. The latter scored what everyone thought was the winning goal on 84 minutes, but the action didn't stop there. Nacional piled on the pressure and were rewarded in injury-time when Alexis Rolin stepped up to head home a late equaliser for los tricolores and ensure the points were to be shared.
