A battering

Penarol suffered a shock 4-0 loss to Atletico Nacional of Colombia yesterday in Matchday 2 of the 2012 Copa Libertadores.

A massive crowd packed out Estadio Centenario in Montevideo to witness one of the worst displays by Penarol in recent times.

Los Carboneros lacked creativity going forward and were completely outplayed by Atletico for the entire 90 minutes.

They fell behind on just 9 minutes when Jherson Cordoba neatly slided the ball past Carini for the opening goal of the game.

It remained 1-0 up until the 50th minute mark when Cordoba scored a second, doubling the away sides advantage.

It continued to get worse for Penarol when Dorlan Pabon scored a third fifteen minutes later, with the Colombian striker then grabbing a brace himself soon after.

4-0 to Atletico Nacional it finished, meaning they stay top of Group 8, with two wins from two.

Penarol however are rooted to the bottom, without a point after two games and even without a goal to their name.

Their next game in the Libertadores is on March 6 at the Estadio Centenario against Universidad de Chile.
